Ralph Nader says SEC should probe Tesla trading based on the stock’s recent spike higher

Longtime consumer advocate Ralph Nader on Wednesday sounded a warning about the recent rally in Tesla’s stock.

The SEC “should pay attention to the protection of investors here and look in to see whether there’s insider trading, potential market manipulating or even the ability to clear the transaction,” he said.

Tesla shares are up more than 70% in the past month (and 233% over the last six months) as recent financial figures encouraged Wall Street the company could be on track for even more profits ahead. read more »

State AGs, Justice Department discuss Google antitrust probe

State attorneys general investigating Alphabet Inc’s Google unit met on Tuesday with U.S. Justice Department officials to coordinate efforts to probe the search and advertising giant, officials told Reuters.

The attorneys general of Texas, Utah and Nebraska were among those in attendance. Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes said one goal of the gathering was to coordinate efforts, with the goal of wrapping up the probe by the end of the year. read more »

Physicians Found Guilty of Role in Over $150 Million Health Care Fraud

A federal jury found four Detroit-area physicians guilty today of health care fraud charges for their roles in a scheme to administer unnecessary back injections to patients in exchange for prescriptions of over 6.6 million doses of medically unnecessary opioids.  Patients were required to get the injections in order to get the prescriptions, some of which were resold on the street by drug dealers, the evidence at trial showed. read more »

UK tech giant founder arrested over US extradition

The founder of UK software firm Autonomy has submitted himself for arrest as part of an extradition process brought by the US over charges of conspiracy and fraud.

Mike Lynch sold Autonomy to US computer giant Hewlett Packard (HP) for $8.4bn in 2011.

But he faces allegations that he fraudulently inflated the value of Autonomy before the sale. read more »
