Facebook Loses Antitrust Case in Germany Over Data Collection

In a closely watched case, Facebook lost an appeal related to charges that it has violated competition laws by abusing its dominance in social media. 

The case had been closely watched after German regulators used a novel interpretation of competition law to rule against the social media giant last year. SG Americas to Pay $3.1 Million to Settle Charges of Providing Deficient Blue Sheet Data

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced settled charges against broker-dealer SG Americas Securities LLC for failing to provide complete and accurate securities trading information known as "blue sheet data."

The order finds that SG Americas submitted missing or incorrect data for approximately 27.6 million transactions and had inadequate processes designed to validate the accuracy of its submissions. Broker-dealers are required to provide trade data, which the SEC uses to carry out its enforcement and regulatory obligations, including investigations of insider trading and other fraudulent activity. read more »

Augusta University Medical Center pays millions for allegations of false healthcare claims

Augusta University Medical Center, Inc. (AUMC) has agreed to a settlement with the nation, Georgia and South Carolina to resolve allegations that it submitted false claims to several government-funded healthcare programs.

Officials say the government contended that AUMC violated the False Claims Act by knowingly submitting claims to federal healthcare programs for a procedure that was not covered by Medicare and Medicaid. read more »
