Attorney General Becerra Announces $40 Million Nationwide Settlement with Apria Healthcare

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today announced a $40 million nationwide settlement with Apria Healthcare Group, Inc. and Apria Healthcare LLC (together, Apria) resolving allegations that the respiratory services provider violated the Federal False Claims Act (FCA), along with numerous state anti-fraud laws by seeking Medicaid reimbursement for ventilation machines that were not medically necessary or reasonable. Of the $40 million nationwide settlement, $4,812,000 relates to violations of Medicaid laws. read more »

Deutsche Bank Probing Sales of Investment Banking Products

Deutsche Bank AG is conducting an internal probe after receiving complaints that some bank employees sold risky investments to clients who didn’t properly understand them.

Deutsche Bank paid billions of dollars in fines and settlements since the financial crisis for misconduct ranging from failure to stop money laundering to selling toxic mortgage securities and rigging benchmark interest rates. read more »

Italy consumer association sues Apple for planned iPhone obsolescence

Italian consumer association Altroconsumo said on Monday it had told Apple it has launched a class action against the U.S. tech giant for the practice of planned obsolescence.

In a statement Altroconsumo said it was asking for damages of 60 million euros ($73 million) on behalf of Italian consumers tricked by the practice which had also been recognised by Italian authorities.

Two similar lawsuits against Apple have been filed in Belgium and Spain for the planned obsolescence of iPhones. read more »
