Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillén's murder a "tipping point," Army secretary says

Fort Hood has one of the highest rates of murder, sexual assault and harassment in the Army, Secretary Ryan McCarthy said Thursday during a visit to the Texas base. McCarty went to Fort Hood in the wake of the slaying of Spc. Vanessa Guillén, who was found dead on the base last month.

McCarthy visited the base weeks after he ordered an independent review of the command climate at Fort Hood following Guillén's. He noted her death has become catalyst for the Army in highlighting issues of sexual harassment and assault in the military. read more »

Uber has a new training requirement for drivers

Following widespread complaints of rape and harassment on its service, Uber plans to require all of its U.S. and Canadian drivers to complete sexual assault and misconduct training.

Between 2018 and 2019, 19 people using the service were murdered, and nearly 6,000 said they were sexually assaulted. read more »

Governor Cuomo Signs Legislation Extending Look Back Window for Child Victims Act

Last year, Governor Cuomo signed the Child Victims Act to ensure survivors of childhood sexual abuse have a path to justice, including the ability to file a case which had already been time-barred or expired for a one-year period. That window to file an expired or time-barred case was set to close August 14, 2020, but had been extended until January by Executive Order on May 8. read more »
