Michigan State University fined $4.5m in Larry Nassar case
Investigation found the school failed to take interim measures to protect students while complaints were pending.
The US education department is fining Michigan State University (MSU) a record $4.5m and demanding sweeping changes, after determining that it failed to respond to sexual assault complaints against Larry Nassar, a former sports doctor at the school who also worked at USA Gymnastics.
Nassar has been sentenced to decades in prison for sexually assaulting athletes, mostly female gymnasts, at Michigan State and a Lansing-area gymnastics club. Former Olympians said he molested them in Texas and overseas while he worked for USA Gymnastics. read more »
How Bad Is Lyft’s ‘Sexual Predator Crisis’?
Women across the country are suing Lyft for allegedly mishandling and concealing their sexual-assault and rape complaints against drivers, CNN reports.
In a lawsuit filed in San Francisco Superior Court on Wednesday, 14 women accuse the ride-hail company of failing victims of sexual assault every step of the way: They claim that Lyft not only “stonewalls” authorities from investigating sexual-misconduct claims made against drivers, but that the company also does not notify victims about the status of their claims. This, the women claim, is deliberate: They say Lyft is choosing to “hide and conceal” the platform’s major “sexual predator crisis.” read more »

Dallas Opera abandons 2020 event as 20 women accuse singer of harassing them
The Dallas Opera has cancelled a gala in which Placido Domingo was due to perform after the growing number of sexual harassment allegations against the Spanish singer.
Twenty women have accused Domingo, the general director of the Los Angeles Opera, of sexually harassing them in incidents dating back to the late 1980s. read more »
