California grants more time for filing child sexual abuse allegations under new law
Victims of childhood sexual abuse will have more time to report allegations and file a lawsuit under a California law signed Sunday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The legislation was introduced following widespread allegations of abuse of minors by Catholic priests as well as the 2018 conviction of Larry Nassar, a former U.S. Olympic gymnastics team doctor, for molesting young athletes. read more »
Blumenthal calls for Uber, Lyft to take steps to protect riders from sexual assault
Senator Richard Blumenthal Thursday called for ridesharing giants Uber and Lyft to take new steps to protect passengers from drivers accused of sexual abuse, after two people in Fairfield County said they were assaulted by their driver in separate cases.
He said both companies are “failing to take significant steps to make their riders safer.”
The senator said he’s calling for the ride-hailing companies to add fingerprint-based background checks, to immediately report cases of sexual assault to law enforcement agencies, and to share information on drivers banned from their rideshare platform with competing companies. read more »
