Nationally Recognized Patent and Intellectual Property Attorney Joins Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro
Philip Graves, a nationally recognized patent and intellectual property litigation attorney, announced today that he has joined the Los Angeles office of the class-action and large-scale litigation firm Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro.
According to managing partner Steve Berman, Graves' experience in intellectual property will be a strong addition to Hagens Berman.
"We’re thrilled to welcome such a seasoned talent to our firm," said Berman. "Phil's experience with patent litigation will bolster our growing intellectual property practice and add to our skilled team of litigators."
Graves' more than 20 years of practice have been dedicated to representing clients, from solo inventors to Fortune 100 technology companies, in patent cases spanning a broad range of technologies.
"Joining Hagens Berman is an amazing opportunity," Graves said. "It’s very exciting to become a part of such an impactful firm, and I’m really looking forward to working with such an impressive group of colleagues."
Graves has represented technology companies in patent cases involving online postage generation and delivery, network security, web-hosting, image capture, digital signature and encryption technologies, nano-scale manufacturing and biotech, among many other technical fields. As lead trial counsel, he has obtained a string of victories for his clients, including a jury verdict in favor of one of his clients avoiding more than $30 million in damages.
Mark Carlson, the firm’s senior IP litigator, said, “Phil brings impressive patent trial experience, talent and recognition to bolster our practice in one of the most significant venues for IP litigation. We are very pleased to have him join our team.”
Graves has also represented medical device manufacturers in several patent suits, and represented a developer of motion capture technology used in numerous major motion pictures in a breach of contract action involving rights in the technology in which he obtained a jury verdict and complete award of attorneys’ fees for his client.
"With our growing work representing consumers and others in California, it makes sense to strengthen our presence there," Berman added. "Graves’ familiarity with the courts in California makes him even more of a potent ally for the firm, and for our clients."
Graves also has extensive experience with cases involving misappropriation of trade secrets, trademark infringement, copyright infringement and unfair competition, as well as antitrust and business litigation.
Graves comes to Hagens Berman as a preeminent intellectual property litigator, as reflected by his inclusion in Southern California Super Lawyers® every year since 2004, and by his inclusion in the Los Angeles Business Journal’s list of 40 Angelenos to Know in Intellectual Property Law.
