Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro Controller Earns Certified Fraud Examiner Designation
Gary Beisheim of Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro recently received his Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the world's leading provider of anti-fraud training and education.
The certification allows Beisheim to help attorneys at HBSS examine data and records to detect and trace fraud, interview fraud suspects, write investigation reports, advise clients, testify at trial and more.
"Gary is an instrumental player on the HBSS team and his recent fraud certification allows our team to expand our capabilities and add to the value we bring clients," said managing partner, Steve Berman. "At HBSS a significant portion of our work involves uncovering fraud and corrupt practices in large companies and Gary's certification enhances our ability to investigate and recover on behalf of clients."
Beisheim has worked and studied for the past five years to obtain his CFE designation. Beisheim is recognized as being well versed in the law as it relates to fraud and fraud investigations and understanding the underlying factors that motivate individuals to commit fraud.
Most recently, HBSS has filed several cases relating to the Madoff investment scheme that shocked investors nationwide. The firm is targeting several feeder funds that pooled clients' money and passed along to Madoff for investment. You can learn more about these cases on the firm's Web site - www.hbsslaw.com.
The firm is also focusing on mortgage and loan fraud tied to the recent housing crisis. The firm's filed cases against Countrywide, KB Home and Wells Fargo claiming the companies conspired with appraisers to inflate housing values, driving up home sale prices and pushing homeowners into dangerous loans.
The firm has several active investigations into Bank of America, Richmond American Homes and others.
To maintain his credentials, Beisheim participates in continued professional education to stay abreast of the latest teachings and understanding of fraud.
The CFE designation is the latest professional distinction among several for Beisheim. He recently received his Certified Valuation Analysts (CVA) designation and he's been an active CPA since 1985 as a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Washington Society of CPA's (WSCPA).
HBSS focuses on complex, class-action lawsuits representing investors, consumers and the environment. Beisheim's expertise and ability to assist in these cases is instrumental and ensures the firm can continue its pursuit for justice through private litigation, Berman noted.
