VW told by California legislators to build EV charging stations in poor areas

California legislators tightened rules requiring Volkswagen Group to spend a portion of clean car infrastructure funds in disadvantaged communities, passing a bill as part of a budget package agreed with Governor Jerry Brown.

The automaker previously agreed to support clean vehicles by spending $800 million in California on projects such as charging stations, part of a total of $2 billion nationally, to atone for secretly installing software in diesel vehicles that allowed them to emit excess pollution.  read more »

Air bag maker Takata to file for bankruptcy this month

Takata Corp, the Japanese company facing billions in liabilities stemming from its defective air bag inflators, is preparing to file for bankruptcy as early as next week as it works toward a deal for financial backing from U.S. auto parts maker Key Safety Systems Inc, sources said on Thursday.  read more »
