Corvette Z06 Owners Sue GM For Allegedly Selling Defective Cars

Chevrolet recently implemented a host of cooling improvements on the 2017 Corvette Z06 but that isn't sitting well with lawyers who are accusing the company of selling customers “unreliable cars with a performance-limiting defect.”

According to a class action lawsuit by Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, the Corvette Z06 cannot be operated safely on a racetrack as the vehicles are prone to overheating and entering into limp mode. When this occurs, the Corvette's power is “drastically reduced" and the lawsuit claims this creates a dangerous situation when the car is surrounded by other speeding vehicles.

The lawsuit says GM deceived customers and violated state and federal laws by failing to ensure the Z06 functions safely. It also alleges the company committed fraudulent concealment, breach of warranty, and unjust enrichment. read more »

Feds Get FCA Diesel Emissions Case Moved to California

U.S. officials have been granted a change of venue for the Department of Justice lawsuit alleging emissions violations by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 104,000 model-year 2014-16 Ram 1500 pickup trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs equipped with 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engines. The case will now be heard by a San Francisco federal court rather than in Detroit.

The civil suit, filed with the EPA, accuses FCA of failing to disclose software on the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel that could be similar to the emissions defeat devices Volkswagen used to cheat on emissions testing in millions of its diesel cars. The EcoDiesel has been available for both the Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 since 2014.

During emissions testing, the VW Group's defeat devices allowed vehicles to dial back the effectiveness of two types of emissions-treatment systems: nitrogen oxide traps and selective catalytic reduction (a urea solution). The FCA vehicles named in the lawsuit use a selective catalytic reduction system. Both the Jeep and Ram 1500 use a selective catalytic reduction system and have particulate filters per federal emissions requirements.

Dutch, English drivers team up to sue VW over 'dieselgate'

Around 220,000 car drivers in the Netherlands, England and Wales joined forces on Tuesday in what could become a pan-European lawsuit against German carmaker Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) seeking compensation over its "dieselgate" emissions scandal.

UK law firm Harcus Sinclair and Dutch Foundation "Stichting Volkswagen Car Claim", a U.S.-style class action on behalf of an estimated 180,000 Dutch VW car owners, have teamed up in a move that could spark a wave of coordinated litigation across Europe.

VW, Europe's biggest carmaker, has said about 11 million cars worldwide were fitted with software to cheat diesel emissions tests that are designed to limit car fumes blamed for respiratory diseases and global pollution. read more »
