Dodge Ram owners accuse Chrysler of misleading them about emissions

A class-action lawsuit alleges that Fiat Chrysler and engine manufacturer Cummins intentionally misled owners of Dodge Ram diesel-powered heavy-duty pickup trucks about the trucks’ emission levels.

The case was filed Monday in federal court in Detroit by Seattle law firm Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro. Four plaintiffs are named in the complaint, but Hagens Berman seeks to bring thousands of other owners into the case.

The suit alleges that the particulate emissions from the trucks were greater than Fiat Chrysler advertised. Attorneys contend that the trucks' emissions caused catalytic converters to wear out more quickly, resulting in the vehicle burning fuel at a higher rate.

“The sheer level of fraud and concealment between Chrysler and Cummins is unconscionable, and we believe we have uncovered a deeply entrenched scheme,” Steve Berman, managing partner of Hagens Berman, said in a statement. read more »

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 5,000 model-year 2013-15 Jaguar XF luxury sedans manufactured between May 22, 2013, and June 15, 2015, and equipped with a 2.0-liter GTDi engine

The Problem: Insufficient clearance between the underfloor fuel delivery lines and the under-shield and body may allow the fuel lines to chafe, possibly resulting in a fuel leak, which in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. read more »
