Volkswagen Supplier to Plead Guilty to Conspiracy, Pay $35 Million Fine in Emissions-Cheating Probe

Berlin-based engineering company IAV designed the software that allowed VW to cheat vehicle emissions tests

Volkswagen AG supplier IAV GmbH has agreed to plead guilty and pay a $35 million fine for its role in the German auto giant’s emissions-cheating scheme, the U.S. Justice Department said Tuesday.

The Berlin-based engineering company, half-owned by Volkswagen and with U.S. operations in Michigan, designed the software that allowed Volkswagen to cheat vehicle emissions tests, according to federal prosecutors. read more »

Jeep Wrangler awarded 1 star in Euro NCAP crash tests

SUV suffered low scores on pedestrian protection, child seat tests

The redesigned Jeep Wrangler failed one of several crash tests performed by Euro NCAP, the European version of crashworthiness studies performed by NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

In results released last week, the Wrangler received a one-star rating for the frontal crash test but performed well in side-barrier and whiplash tests. Euro NCAP said the latest Wrangler provided only marginal protection for the chest, body area and neck of the driver and passenger. read more »
