Fiat Chrysler denied bid to dismiss diesel emission cheating claims

Fiat Chrysler was denied a quick escape from a lawsuit that accuses the carmaker of rigging diesel engines with emissions control defeat devices similar to those installed in 11 million Volkswagen vehicles.

A federal judge in San Francisco ruled Thursday that owners of 150,000 Dodge Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee models across eight U.S. states can proceed toward trial over allegations that software in their vehicles was designed to hide emissions up to 20 times the legal limit.

The boss of Porsche today apologised for his firm’s role in the Volkswagen ‘dieselgate’ scandal as he announced record sales and profits and signalled that the firm was charging towards an electric future.

Porsche executive board chairman Oliver Blume said his firm accepted ‘full responsibility’ for the cheating by his parent firm VW over diesel emissions figures, as its engines were used in its cars. read more »
