Petrol and diesel cars could be banned from some of the busiest streets in Britain under new plans outlined today.

Germans vent VW fury in mass 'dieselgate' suit
German consumer groups filed Thursday the country's first class-action suit over Volkswagen's emissions cheating scandal, in a first taste for the auto giant of the anger felt by duped diesel drivers.
Consumer association VZBV said in a statement it had filed the request overnight.
They accuse the sprawling 12-brand group of deliberately harming clients by installing software to make cars appear less polluting than they really were.
Germans have grown increasingly irritated by "dieselgate" fallout as they face plummeting resale values of diesel cars and looming driving bans in big cities due to pollution concerns. read more »
Rupert Stadler released from jail as Dieselgate investigations continue
Munich prosecutors have released former Audi chief executive Rupert Stadler after four-and-a-half months in prison over alleged interference in their ‘Dieselgate’ investigations.
Stadler’s release comes just weeks after the Volkswagen Group forced him out of both his Audi CEO and VAG board roles, with an €8 million ($A12.78 million) sweetener that will only be payable if he’s found innocent of all Dieselgate accusations.
Stadler has been held without charge in jail in the Bavarian city of Augsburg (Audi is headquartered in Ingolstadt, in Bavaria) after police alleged they intercepted the 55-year-old on a phone call attempting to hinder their investigations. read more »
Ford corrects Focus recall report: Supplier was Bosch
Ford warned that the defective valve may cause engine stalls, inaccurate fuel levels and possibly an "inability to restart the vehicle," increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford Motor Co. has filed a new safety recall report with NHTSA, correcting the supplier information for a defective canister purge valve that resulted in a recall of nearly 1.3 million Ford Focus vehicles in the U.S.

Subaru, Toyota recall 165,000 U.S. cars with defect that could lead to engine stalling
The recalled models include certain versions of the 2012-14 Subaru Impreza 4D, the 2012-13 Subaru Impreza 5D, the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek, the 2013 Subaru BRZ and the 2013 Scion FR-S. read more »
