Hagens Berman, a law firm with extensive experience in pharmaceutical fraud cases, is investigating allegations that New England Compounding Company (NECC) manufactured and sold tainted epidural steroid injections that are believed to have caused a lethal form of fungal meningitis.

NECC sold at least 17,000 potentially tainted steroid shots to 75 clinics in 23 states across the country, according to published reports.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 245 people have developed fungal meningitis, stroke due to presumed fungal meningitis, or other central nervous system-related infections. There have also been two reports of joint infections. The FDA has also identified three possible cases of fungal infections cause by other medicines from NECC, including cardioplegic solution, commonly used during heart surgery. NECC's apparent indifference has reportedly lead to at least 19 deaths.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Justice Department have both launched investigations into this matter.
