Hagens Berman Investigating Lumber Liquidators for Sales of Allegedly Hazardous Formaldehyde-Tainted Flooring

Report Revealed Cancer-Causing Formaldehyde at 13 Times the California Limit

SEATTLE National laminate wood flooring company Lumber Liquidators, Inc. (NYSE:LL) has reportedly sold flooring tainted with hazardous levels of formaldehyde to consumers across the country, according to attorneys at Hagens Berman. The national consumer-rights law firm is investigating Lumber Liquidators and is seeking information from consumers who purchased composite wood flooring products from the company.

Formaldehyde can cause myeloid leukemia and other cancers at high levels, as well as respiratory issues and eye, nose and throat irritation even at low levels. According to recent news, tested samples of Lumber Liquidators’ flooring contained levels of formaldehyde that was 13 times higher than the legal and safe California emissions standards.

Concerned consumers who purchased “Dream Home” Lumber Liquidators flooring may contact Hagens Berman by emailing [email protected] or by calling 206-623-7292. Additional information about the investigation is available at /cases/lumber-liquidators---formaldehyde-flooring.

“Reports have revealed a disturbing and far-reaching trend – that Lumber Liquidators appears to blatantly disregard levels of toxic chemicals in its flooring all for the sake of profit,” said Steve Berman, managing partner of Hagens Berman. “Instead of legally complying with safety and health regulations, Lumber Liquidators has chosen profit before the safety of millions of its customers.”

Lumber Liquidators began in 1993 and now operates 352 retail stores in 46 states and online.

A report from “60 Minutes” recently stated that all laminate flooring carried by Lumber Liquidators bears a label indicating that it is California Air Resources Board (CARB) Phase 2–compliant, but that its flooring manufactured in China that bears this label is in fact not compliant. The report revealed that glue and resin used to bond the pressed wood together can be a significant source of formaldehyde gas.

“The cancer-causing formaldehyde in this laminated flooring won’t just stay on the floor boards,” Berman added. “Testing has shown that this toxic chemical found in high levels in Lumber Liquidators’ flooring releases hazardous gas indoors – gas that is particularly harmful to children.”

Lumber Liquidators has reportedly failed to alert consumers about the allegedly high levels of formaldehyde in its laminate wood flooring.
