Core Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and vet potential new cases for technical and legal issues
  • Responsible for having a deep knowledge and understand all the facts in each case that is assigned
  • Ability to review, summarize, and highlight evidence gathered from documents
  • Research legal facts and regulations for new cases
  • Conduct all phases of civil discovery, including drafting written discovery, conducting meet and confers, and preparing for and conducting depositions

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • J.D. with 2-3 years’ litigation experience (class action and antitrust experience strongly preferred).

The Pasadena office of Hagens Berman is looking for a bright and motivated paralegal to join our team. We’re a collection of smart, dedicated, and creative lawyers and staff working on some of the most high quality, cutting edge litigation in the country. Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in preparing briefs for filing, including formatting to comply with court rules, cite-checking, conforming to stylistic preferences, and proofreading.
  • Pulling and preparing exhibits in support of briefing and drafting corresponding declarations.
  • Preparing redacted versions of documents based on confidentiality designations and motions to file unredacted versions under seal.
  • Filing and serving court documents, including responsibility for sending hard copy courtesy copies and email service of proposed order to judges.
  • Assisting with investigation on potential cases.
  • Drafting shell discovery and correspondence.
  • Coordinating document productions, including bates-numbering and redactions.
  • Organizing and tracking documents produced in discovery, including maintenance of production logs and indexing of certain documents.
  • Performing searches for documents produced in discovery in electronic document review system.
  • Preparing materials for oral arguments, depositions, mediations, and trial.
  • Drafting and tracking pro hac vice applications.
  • Assisting in maintaining a paperless internal filing system, including scanning and filing of documents in document management system.
  • Calendaring legal deadlines.
  • Keeping track of time worked for purposes of cost recovery.
  • Some administrative tasks including answering calls to main line; setting up court reporters, court calls, and conference calls; making travel arrangements; preparing expense reports and credit card reconciliations; ordering office supplies as needed; coordinating equipment maintenance/repair; and entering time for attorneys.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2-5 years of experience as a litigation paralegal.
  • Ability to understand legal concepts and terminology.
  • Knowledge of the rules regulating paralegals.
  • Knowledge of state/federal/appellate court rules and procedures, and the skills to find and understand those in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Knowledge of state/federal/appellate court ECF e-filing systems, and the ability to learn e-filing systems in other jurisdictions.
  • Knowledge of Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize workload, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to follow precise written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines and maintain patience in high-pressure situations.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage large-scale document review projects from end-to-end, including working with case teams to develop document review protocols, processes and workflow, onboarding review attorneys, coordinating training, implementing document review assignments, performance management, QC and maintenance of rating and coding accuracy, managing review memo process, managing implementation of second-level deliverables such as chronologies, witness kits, and Storybuilder.
  • Consult with case teams regarding review of incoming productions to confirm compliance with Stipulated ESI Protocols and Protective Orders.
  • Consult with case teams regarding development of ESI Protocols and Stipulated Protective Orders.
  • Consult with case teams regarding implementation of Everlaw’s Technology Assisted Review (TAR) tools such as Predictive Coding and Clustering.
  • Consult with case teams regarding creation of effective search terms and implementation of complex database searches based on search terms, including preparation of search term reports and implementation of review assignments for various projects, including deposition preparation and targeted issue reviews,.
  • Work with Litigation Technology Specialists on initiatives related to in-house training and development of processes and protocols related to Everlaw an e-discovery.
  • Work with Litigation Technology Specialists and Everlaw contacts to maintain positive relationship and implement feature requests that will benefit the firm and focus on plaintiffs’ substantive document review tools.
  • Assist with evaluating document reviewers productivity and writing staff attorney performance feedback.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. with 5-7 years of civil litigation/discovery experience in federal court
  • Familiarity with electronic discovery issues
